Edit and ReEdit Your Sentences

Write concise sentences. I'm certain I could be a candidate for the world's longest sentence-writer if Guiness has a category for such. When reading my drafts I literally get winded by some of the 50-word sentences I write. Tsk! If you have this dilemma, perhaps the best thing to do is break the sentence into separate lines starting with the first verb and every one thereafter. Edit each line, condensing word usage as you go. Pull the finished result into a more concise sentence and continue to edit as necessary. I've observed that if there is a single word for two words, the single word is probably stronger.
